Notes:

• Learn to solo like a real musician: By playing what you hear in your head.

• The four lessons will cover soloing over Ionian, Aeolian, Mixolydian and Dorian modes.

• You must be able to "match tones" in order to follow these lessons. If you think you might be "tone deaf," you might try working with a vocal coach to get better at this. I also discuss this problem in my lesson entitled Ear Training: Intervals, "Tone Deafness"....

• Ionian Mode has a major I chord and major IV chord, which gives it a "bright/happy" sound.

• Aeolian Mode has a minor I chord and a minor IV chord, giving it a darker/sadder sound.

• Mixolydian Mode has a Dominant 7 (bluesy/funky) tonic chord. This mode is something of a special case. There is only one dominant 7 chord in the diatonic series. However, a very common chord progression in blues and rock is a I7 chord and IV7 chord.

• Dorian Mode is just a bit brighter than Aeolian, and has a major IV chord.

• We'll start super easy; by humming just one note!
